Qualification et validation des systèmes

La validation évalue la qualité des sorties des systèmes opérationnels. En premier lieu, les produits sont controlés pour vérifier qu'ils reproduisent bien la dynamique océanique telle qu'elle est connue des océanographes. Pour s'assurer que les produits décrivent les situations océaniques précises, des comparaison directes sont menées entre ces produits et les observations (satellitaires et in situ), considérées comme la "vérité mer".

L'activité de validation est effectuée en deux étapes.

Une première étape dite "boucle courte", régulière, hebdomadaire, consiste en l'analyse qualitative des sorties des chaînes opérationnelles et des diagnostiques in-line. Cette activité est menée par les exploitants/prévisionnistes. Ils certifient le réalisme général de la production hebdomadaire, avant sa diffusion vers les utilisateurs.

Une deuxième étape, dite "boucle longue", s'intéresse à une échelle de temps plus longue, de l'ordre de quelques semaines à quelques mois. Elle est menée par des scientifiques océanographes soit à travers les analyses systématiques d'un système, soit à travers des études de cas.
