Operational oceanography is a complex system covering data collection, equation elaboration, modeling, equation validation, data assimilation as well as user management, user uptake and outreach. It can be defined as ” the activity of measuring and providing daily and long-term physical and biogeochemical information about the surface and sub-surface of the ocean. This information shall be relevant enough to be used to implementing sea operations and their related activities.”
To explain more in detail what is operational oceanography, Mercator Ocean international has created a short interactive flipbook.
Do not hesitate to leaf through it and click on the different elements of the pages.
