CALL FOR ABSTRACT: 10th International Workshop on Sea Ice Modelling, Assimilation, Observations, Predictions and Verification

On 20-22 October 2020, simultaneously in Toulouse (France) and Montréal (Canada), there will be held a joint workshop of the International Ice Charting Working Group (IICWG) organized by the Copernicus Marine Service and Mercator Ocean International, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), the Coordination & Support Action KEPLER by the European Commission, the Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) and the European Space Agency Climate Change Initiative for Sea Ice (ESA CCI).

Objective

This workshop, which is part of a series organized by the International Ice Charting (IICWG) Data Assimilation Working Group, aims at improving international capabilities for sea ice prediction on timescales from hours to a season.  The focus of the workshop is to discuss cross-cutting issues in sea ice modeling and assimilation and how deficiencies of current systems can be more efficiently diagnosed and addressed.

General topics considered for this workshop include:
  • sea ice observations and uncertainties,
  • sea ice data assimilation (methods and results),
  • sea ice model parameterizations and coupling to ocean and atmosphere models,
  • verification approaches for sea-ice analyses and forecasts,
  • recent research to sea ice operation transfer –  Automated prediction systems.

Organization

The workshop will be organized around keynotes and presentations with ample time for discussion. As the number of participants is limited, please provide a short abstract (or the motivation for attending) in the registration form below. Attendees are encouraged to make a contribution: please specify your preference for oral or poster presentation.

Attend the Conference in Toulouse or Montreal

For this 10th event, in order to reduce transportation carbon footprint, participants are invited to attend physically in two locations of their choice:  in Toulouse or Montreal. A video link will be available between Montreal and Toulouse in order for the participants in both places to exchange. Participants are asked to mention in the abstract submission form which location (Montreal or Toulouse) they will physically attend the workshop.

Call for abstract

We appreciate the submission of the abstract no later than 30 June 2020. Participants will be contacted by 15 July 2020 regarding their proposed contribution. Registration is now closed.
