Ocean-Sciences-Meeting Portland

Ocean Science Meeting in Portland, Oregon

This year’s Ocean Science Meeting (OSM) will take place on February 11th to the 16th, 2018 in Portland Oregon. With increasing alarm surrounding ocean changes resulting from human activities, there is a great need for experts and advocates around the world to convene and discuss the state of the ocean. OSM is a major ocean event with some 4,000 attendees expected. It is a chance for scientists, leaders, students, educators, and policy makers to come together and partake in information exchange and dialogue.

Ocean Science Meeting Portland Oregon 2018 Scientific ProgramOSM will cover a broad range of topics on marine sciences, education, policy, outreach, and more. The conference is co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), and The Oceanography Society(TOS).

There will be three participants from Mercator Ocean who will be contributing by giving presentations.

Guillaume SAMSONGuillaume Samson, Oceanographer with a specialization in ocean atmosphere interaction at Mercator Ocean, will present on upper ocean sensitivity to atmospheric forcing errors and air-sea turbulent fluxes algorithms at a station located in the Northwest Pacific Ocean. You can learn more here.

Marie DREVILLONMarie Drevillon, Product Quality Manager at Mercator Ocean, will present on how we can provide error bars for ocean monitoring indicators – such as heat content in the first 700m, mean sea level rise, sea ice extent – by merging several sources of ocean information among those available in CMEMS. In particular she covers a multi-product ensemble of global ocean reanalyses (GLOBAL_REANALYSIS_PHY_001_026 ), and a gridded reprocessing of satellite and in situ observations (GLOBAL_REP_PHY_001_021 ).

Charly REGNIERCharly Regnier, Scientific and IT Engineer at Mercator Ocean, will present on developing new big data services with Mercator Ocean ocean analyses and forecasts by using the Platform as a Service approach.
