EARSC is helping to strengthen dialogue between Copernicus Entrusted Entities and Copernicus Services users, particularly those Earth Observation companies who are intermediary users. They  have created a survey on the Copernicus Marine Service to help map the intermediary user landscape.

Mercator Ocean International and the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) are pleased to invite you to the kick-off event of a partnership signed between the two entities in the context of the Copernicus Programme.

EARSC&MOi

The partnership, envisioned by Geoff Sawyer, Secretary General of EARSC and Pierre Bahurel, Director General of Mercator Ocean International, is meant to foster the  wide-spread use of the Copernicus Marine Service by market and stimulate user uptake in the Earth Observation (EO) downstream sector. It will be launched during the 11th European Space Policy Conference, on January 22nd, 2019 in Brussels, Belgium.

“EARSC will establish an unrivalled channel to reach out to and to serve the EO industry in the European Union” said Bahurel. The cooperation also aims to stimulate blue growth by boosting the EO sector through the provision of free and open marine data.

The partnership will include 4 main areas of exchange, below are some of the key points:
  1. EARSC will gather and analyze service & data requirements from across the European and international EO sectors in terms of Copernicus Marine Service products. This will feed the next generation of the Copernicus Marine Service portfolio.
  2. EARSC will work to bring visibility to the Copernicus Marine Service products and to foster user uptake across the European and international EO sectors.
  3. EARSC will organize a workshop in the fall of 2019 to streamline the EO sector service & data requirements and the Copernicus Marine Service offer.
  4. EARSC will showcase success stories of the EO sector using Copernicus marine products for the development of successful applications.

EARSC  promotes, on a non-profit basis, the use of EO technology and companies in Europe (in particular) that offer EO-related products and services. They are a membership-based organization with the mission to foster the development of the European EO geo-information services industry. For years, they have been an essential pillar of the Copernicus ecosystem.
